What People Say

We undertook some in-school diversity awareness with the children which we felt had had a positive impact. However, we still felt we needed ‘an expert’ from outside to provide a new voice to share the message. Someone mentioned Pete in our staff meeting when we were discussing diversity/equality matters- we had had a visit from him a while ago. It prompted us to seek him out- exploring some of the work he now offers from his excellent website. We were thrilled he found us a date very promptly!

He did a short interactive assembly with the whole school, engaging a variety of year groups instantly. The children were excited to know they will be working with him in the future.

[Pete focussed on] British values … all 5 in some manner, particularly as they were some of our older children, the staff felt there were some mature themes covered.

Equality and diversity were both covered and very much at the core of his message in our assembly and in the workshops. The children really engaged well with the role play and interaction, but he also drew out some really interesting observations linked to our vision and values.

I think Pete was really pleased with how well the children AND staff engaged with all the learning (and fun!) they were involved in over the course of the day.

Brilliant day- children and staff loved the sessions. They learnt a lot and we will be booking further days with Pete for later in the year. It was everything we had hoped for!

Children were so engaged with the activities. Discussion was open and all children were made to feel comfortable. It was amazing to see children ‘be children’ through play and drama.

The sessions were fantastic! It would be great to have a follow up activity to revisit the learning.

Pete is an amazingly talented and creative man who really brought out the best in all our children.

Thank you Pete for the most incredible day for the children. Each group came out excited and enthused. They expressed just how much they enjoyed themselves working with you. My class, in particular, really enjoyed the engaging and practical approach to creating stories and poetry which I thought they may feel they are too grown up for – they certainly aren’t and have asked for a fancy dress box for wet play.

Finally, on a personal note, it was wonderful and inspiring to see how you motivate and engage the children in writing and there was plenty for myself and our staff to put into practice this week for World Book Day.

Thank you so much for your time and energy. You have truly left such a positive mark on our children.
Many thanks.

Joe Godfrey

Class 5 Teacher (English, DT and ICT Lead), Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School

I have had the pleasure of working with Pete on numerous occasions at my previous school, so I knew from the moment that I was planning a Literacy based theme week that he had to be a part of it.

Pete worked with all children in our Infants’ School and managed to transport them all to magical places through his talented and engaging storytelling workshops. The children were fully involved and focussed throughout and learnt some excellent performance poetry techniques along the way.

After Pete’s workshop, each class in our school took part in poetry and storytelling-based activities and created some wonderful pieces of writing both individually and in groups.

Our staff team were able learn some valuable skills to take forward into our future Literacy teaching which was an added bonus to his wonderful visit. We will definitely be looking for Pete to return next year!

Pete is a local artist. He will work with you to develop your creative skills. Having fun is top of Pete’s priority list, while also helping you to celebrate diversity and different cultures. You might paint with water colour, or work with clay. You will participate in interactive storytelling and may also create mural art. That is just a taste of the fun you will have with Pete.
