Look at the Hinkley Point poem.
Bird watchers winking on the old sea wall
Down here in Hinkley where the seagulls call,
Low tide lifting on a shingle shore
The wind blows fresh, sharp and raw,
Listen to the waves swell and crack
Sing to the Welsh and they’ll sing back.
Yes to the wind and shining sun
Renewable power for everyone,
Yes to the waves’ never ending force
Energy for ever – of course!
Leave these hills to the swallows and the moles
Let’s walk free – so good for the soul,
Leave this land for the rabbits to run
Butterflies flicker in the sharp spring sun,
Buttercups wink and smile and say
We can win this fight on this golden day.
Yes to the wind and shining sun
Renewable power for everyone,
Yes to the waves’ never ending force
Energy for ever – of course!
Rise like lions after years of slumber
Shout out loud in mighty numbers,
Snap your chains in the morning dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you,
Roar with a force of a hurricane
Shout “no thanks!” again and again.
Yes to the wind and shining sun
Renewable power for everyone,
Yes to the waves’ never ending force
Energy for ever – of course!
It praises the power of renewable energy – wind, sun and waves.
Can you write your own version?
What do you like about wind farms, solar panels and tidal energy?
What do people say about them? Have you noticed that people become passionate in support of these ways of creating electricity. But not everyone agrees. Why?
Research Chernobyl, Fukushima.
Feel free to send me your work.
