All children and adults can paint successfully in an Impressionist style.
Use water colours with a little white acrylic.
Play Debussy or Eric Satie and talk about the power of nature, wind through the trees, dappled sunlight and birdsong.
Use lots of water – in fact to coat the paper (ideally thick water colour paper) with water before your start to paint.
Let the watery brush dance over the page to create the sky.
The paint dries quickly.
Paint trees with expressive branches reaching out across the paper.
Use the side of the brush then the point of the brush to show the branches twisting and growing. Use dark water colours for the trees and bushes then flicks of acrylic white for highlights and blossom.
Paint one, then another, then another…
